Blogs and Comments
Seriously, if a blog only allows a select group of people to comment, and you have to "audition" to join this group, why even allow comments at all? Do they even understand what blog commenting is about? It's about people being able to participate in the conversation and quite possible disagree with the writer. If you decided you hated my taste and wanted to let everyone know, I wouldn't stop you from saying so. If you weren't particularly witty but wanted to say something, I would let you! Of course, spamming a blog with obnoxious comments is rude and grounds for deletion, but to only allow people who agree with you to have a voice just really annoys me.
Sorry, I just had to rant about that. Feel free to agree or disagree in the comments section ;)

Plenty of mediums are great and don't allow comments.... they're called television, newspapers, magazines and radio.
Comments are the best part of blogs, censoring them without real reason is the worst.
Eh? What blog requires you to audition? Besides the Gawker blogs, that is. Anonymous makes a good point above, I must admit. My opinion would depend on the situation and content I suppose. Personally, I don't have time and energy to deal with the spam and trolls that appear when totally anonymous comments are allowed.
I think not allowing comments is fine. Its the blog owners prerogative. However, dedicating an entire lengthy blog entry to describing what kind of comments are allowed seems rather holier-than-thou and uh...censorshippy. shh. its a word. I just made it up.
^I can't even bear to read through that gigantic Jezebel post. Editors...edit thyselves!
Goodness gracious, I can't seem to bring myself to read the whole post... Aptly put, I still prefer yours to Jezebel's. Keep up the good work!
