Steampunk = Fashion?
The "New York Times" recently did an article about how steampunk is becoming more mainstream. If you don't know, steampunk is a mix of Victorian style with technology. Think top hats, brass, velvet, flying googles, etc. There's even a a steampunk shop opening in NoLIta, NYC this Summer, which I'd love to check out. I've personally always loved the stylized look of it, but I think it belongs more on the streets of Japan than on the runways. You could tone it down, but really that's what any Victorian era inspired fashion looks like. So while I'll continue to enjoy steampunk computers and the like, I doubt it's ever have more than a cult following. Which is right where steampunk likes it.

If I had the energy/creativity to dress like that, I most definitely would! But as it is, I will have to admire it from a distance.
As I've said before, I don't know why exactly, but steampunking creeps me out.
