A F/W '09 Fashion Week Summary: Top Trends

I had such a blast at fashion week this year, and can't wait to go back again!
I suppose I should cover my feelings on the top trends first (meaning what you can buy now and still be able to wear six months from now!)
Sequins and crystals are still everywhere, doesn't it feel like they've been in for 2-3 years now? I know I loved them, then got sick of them and now am possibly hearting them again. I saw them mostly on cocktail frocks, but Doo.Ri had some amazing tights that seriously stole the show! Colors were all over the place, from basic black, to the gold at 3.1 Philip Lim to rainbow at Alice + Olivia.
I definitely saw lots of sheer, so invest in some basic camis now! I've always found this to be a difficult trend for me to wear, definitely not for the faint hearted.
I was surprised to see so much flounce for fall, but it goes great with menswear and darker colors - less over the top girly!
Fur and Leather
Sorry PETA, but there were tons of fur and leather items all over the place. If you haven't gotten yourself a boxy (faux) fur coat or (faux) leather motorcycle jacket, you should invest now while they're on sale! I also saw a good amount of leather pants / leggings, which means I can keep wearing mine, hooray!
Slouchy Pants
In case you thought you could wait out harem / drop crotch / pajama pants trend, I have some bad news for you. Looks like this trend will continue on for '09 with strong showings at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Doo.Ri, ADAM and more! I think it's easiest to wear when it tapers a little past the knee and over the same color tights.

I dunno if I could pull off the slouchy/harem pants! I do love the dark ruffles though.

I do love those bejeweled tights!!! I need more ruffles, and I always search ebay and etsy for sheer - lol.

I love the tights too, they were a real standout! Another trend I thought was draping. Doo.Ri, Derek Lam, Catherine Malandrino had a lot of grecian draped dresses that looked gorgeous!

I love how architectural that purple ruffle snaking down the back of the dress is. I'd love to find a ruffled piece like that to add to my spring wardrobe.
