Hedgehogs the New It Pet?

Honestly, I was about to write on teacup pigs being the new It pet when my fiance sent me this Daily Mail article about hedgehogs being the new animal fashion accessory.

The African pygmy hedgehog is super cute, seems to be quite happy hanging out in your purse, and comes in a variety of colors from albino to salt & pepper to apricot.

What doesn't seem to be mentioned is that they also shed quills all over and, no you cannot potty train it - expect a dirty mess in your bag at the end of each day! And you cannot take this little guy to any ol' vet, you need to make sure there's one near you who knows how to care for this exotic pet. Nothing aggravates me more than a person who buys an animal without any sort of forethought or sense of responsibility!

But, if you do your research and decide this is the right pet for you, go for it, they're very sweet and much more low maintenance than a cat or dog, more like a bunny or ferret.
