A coworker of mine (shout out to Caryn!) tipped me to the blog New Dress A Day. Basically, poor Marisa hit 30 and lost her job around the same time, and felt like she was in a rut, but instead of sitting around feeling sorry for herself, she came up with a plan. Inspired by the movie Julie and Julia, she decided she would create one new dress every day for a year. Each dress would be created from garments found at flea markets, vintage shops, and garage sales. Her budget? $1 per day. That's it. No other clothes shopping than that for an entire year.
Marisa's blog is a day by day chronicling of each dress, (or, on occasion shirt) depicting the garment in its original state, and then the new dress she made from it. She also includes a description of how she got from point A to point B and oftentimes a real world example of her inspiration.
I find her whole endeavor very inspiring, and am really impressed with her creativity and commitment. She is already up to day 240, and really seems to be having a blast with the project. I wouldn't be at all surprised if at the end of all this she ends up with great opportunities to make money doing the thing she loves. What do you think? Crazy? Inspired? Or both?
