A Fashion Education: Lanvin
So I announced to some people at work that Lanvin was officially going to create a limited edition collaboration with H&M, and I got the response "Who?" So I'm going to force them to all come to my blog to find out - I'm sneaky like that!!
Started in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin (pronounced LAHN-van), it is currently the oldest French fashion house in operation! It built its name with feminine pieces and details, lots of embroidery and beading. Now a days I equate the label with pearl & ribbon necklaces, ruffled, one shoulder cocktail frocks and, of course, ballet flats.
Currently designed by Alber Elbaz, it's a favorite by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, Chloƫ Sevigny, Sofia Coppola, and Jennifer Aniston. And who can forget Maggie Gylenhall wearing that green leopard print dress to the Golden Globes... swoon!
For Fall 2010, Elbaz somehow managed to simultaneously channel urban minimalism and tribal safari. With architectural shapes and fab embellishment, it reminded me a bit of my favorite Rodarte collection - kinda futuristic, tribal warrior!I cannot wait to see the H&M collboration!!
