Malan Breton S/S '11

Project Runway alum Malan Breton had a kindness and sincerity about him that obviously touched a lot of people. After being kicked off the show, he was found by some investors and now shows every season during NY Fashion Week, probably making him one of the top five most successful alumni!
The Chelsea Symphony played live during his show, which was quite theatrical as models ended up being ballerinas mid show and did a beautiful dance! The fire alarm also went off :O but after a minute someone managed to shut it off.
The clothing had a little bit of retro, Hollywood glamour, lots of jewel-tone vibrancy and luxe fabrics like silk dupione. There were some hand-beaded pieces that were amazingly crafted, but also had paillette appliques that were a bit too much.

The menswear was nice, clean lines with some interesting pops of color. I'm still not sure how I feel about men in trouser shorts though, particularly male models with muscular legs. It makes me thing of a rich older man paying hot young things to dress up in German garb.

But overall it was a sophisticated collection that would probably most appeal to the slightly older set of ladies who lunch. Check out all my pictures here:
