2011 Costume Institute Gala 'Met Ball' Fashion

I don't usually post event photo fashion, no Oscar recaps, etc. But today I just had a random urge to briefly discuss the 2011 Costume Institute Gala 'Met Ball.' First, the dresses I disliked...

Met Ball Mehs
Sorry ladies, but I just don't love. Alicia Keys in a hideous brown look, with a top that just looked heavy and blah. Fergie looking like what a Jersey Shore girl would consider nymph-like. Kirsten Dunst looking like what grandma would wear to a fancy event. Christina Ricci looking like Wednesday Adams. Unlike award show red carpets, this annual gala is about taking risks in fashion! But I just wasn't feeling the heavier looks, over embellishment, all the black and fall colors. It's pretty spring time, dammit!

As for the gowns I adored...
MET Gala Wins
I personally felt drawn to looks that could be described either as acid minimal or ethereal. Showing that you can stand out without loading on the embellishments, Brooklyn Decker in a hot pink gown with thigh split definitely caught my eye! Same with Zoe Saldana - don't you love that yellow? There were some floaty gowns as well that really stood out, Liv Tyler's dress managed to look light while being quite detailed! And Salma Hayek's rosette on the hip took her dress from just meh to woo!

And if I had to pick a best dressed of the night...
Dakota Fanning in Valentino for the win!! She looks like a fairy princess, age-appropriate yet stunning, and certainly perfect for spring! Definitely love this dress, but who did you like the most? Read all about the event and look at pictures yourself at Telegraph UK.
