Possible Spring Trend: Nautical Striped Blazers

A started noticed breton striped blazers popping up all over a few weeks ago! I think it's a fun way to rock the sailor stripe trend and totally gives a classic with a touch of edgy vibe. The look is really easy to wear; pair with flared jeans and some cute heels for a great casual Friday or weekend ensemble or rock with a vibrantly colored dress if you need to go day to night! So here are a variety of options in various prices:

Grey Fade Plaid Button Down

Slate Grey Plaid Button DownThis plaid button down isn't your run-of-the-mill flannel! It has a great color pattern and unique fade out styling that gives the piece a more interesting flair! Buy at My Chameleonfor $99 US dollars.

My Style Challenge: Pink Blazer ReImagined

A little bit ago I wrote about a too large pink blazer. Well, I had decided I wasn't really happy with its dwarfing silhouette, so I had put it in my "to donate" bag when I had a stroke of genius! I once saw a street style picture of a girl who cut off the sleeves of a mens' blazer. She looked so chic and I always told myself I wanted to do the same thing one day. Well, this pink blazer may not be menswear, but the principle remained the same! So here it is, reborn:
I absolutely love how it turn out - it went from boring and a bit old lady-ish to edgy and fashionable! It no long overwhelms me and took maybe five minutes to do, hooray!
I'm wearing: a Land's End blazer with the sleeves cut off, a purple tee courtesy of Land's End Canvas, grey knit BCBG pants, my beret from Barney's, American Apparel fingerless gloves and my Robert Cleregie boots also from Barney's.
This look took me from the office to DC Restaurant Week! I went out with some of my BFFs, Judy & Julie, to Charthouse in Alexandria for delicious seafood - yum!

Leaf Print Romper

Leaf Print RomperI really like this bold leaf print! This romper would be killer once it warms up, but perhaps you could wear it now by pairing it with tights and some over the knee boots? Buy at South Moon Under for $78.

Floral Heels

Floral HeelsMixing prints is chic, and why not let your shoes get into the action? This floral print is amazing, and would be great with a breton striped dress or the like! Buy these Rachel Rachel Roy heels for $99.

Shaggy Collar Leather Jacket

Shaggy Collar Leather JacketOk, I'm feeling slightly better, I think I can carry on blogging! Here's a super cute jacket with a great shaggy collar! But there's no description so who knows if it's shearling or something else - don't you hate that? Buy at Singer 22 for $239.

Blargh

Please excuse my lack of posts, but I'm a sweaty, achy, teeth gnashy mess. I'm pretty sure this is what it feels like before you turn into a zombie...

Lil' Lupe Fuentes Launches Sexy Little Angel

Lil' Lupe Fuentes is a 79 lb, 4'9" porn star. She feels that the fashion industry is ignoring the needs of little people and has launched her own line called Sexy Little Angel, which offers sizes Small, Petite, and Tiny. She told TMZ, "In America, there are all of the plus size stores for those who are big, or overweight, when the ideal for many is to be thin and fit."She added, "I have nothing against women who are overweight, but I can’t shop in their stores."

It's true that options are pretty limited for the extremely petite woman out there... unless she wants to buy all her clothes at Baby Gap! So, even though I imagined I would be a medium by her standards, I was very interested in the concept. But alas, the execution is what many would expect from a porn star - super tiny, super tight, perfect for working the strip.

I did notice that there's a tiny shoes category. Even though it's currently empty, it could be something interesting to watch, even if it is all stripper heels!

Egyptian Ornament Pendant

Egyptian Ornament PendantI feel like long pendants will be big next, so store your statement bibs for now and check out this beautiful piece! Available in copper or silver, it's only $48 at Free People.

Designer to Watch: Dora Abodi

Award-winner Hungarian fashion designer Dora Abodi has only had three collection, but really stands out as someone to watch! Extremely contemporary and a touch experimental, this designer also believes fashion should be ethical - no labour exploitation, no real fur or exotic leathers and often using recycled materials!Mixing elegant, handcrafted details with a feminine whimsy, and reminds me a bit of Karen Walker, Erin Fetherston and Rad Hourani all thrown together. She draws inspiration for so many places, literature, comic books, science fiction, nature, the fine arts, that it's hard to really pinpoint her aesthetic. But in a good way!Besides womenswear she also designs super cute purses, shoes and hats that I now covet! Unfortunately the only place you can find her online is Cinna Edua, a UK boutique. And they only have two items in stock right now! You can email her site about purchasing items, but for some reason that scares me :O So could some stores in the States PLEASE start stocking her?? She's be great for Pixie Market or Opening Ceremony, don't you think?

Here's a video of her Spring '10 show:

Long Column Skirt

I'm looking for a maxi skirt that wouldn't be too voluminous on my short frame. The last one I tried on was a super tight Rick Owens tube skirt that I could barely walk in! This LnA column skirt seems to strike a balance though, buy a ShopBop for $99.

Ethnic Studded Tank

Not all studs are edgy rocker, this Soft Joie tank is much more exotic boho! This would be great for spring, so why am I posting it now? I can't help it!! Buy at Last Call NM for the sale price of $132 (originally $298!)

Silk Heart Print T-Shirt Dress

It's silk made a bit more casual in a t-shirt dress silhouette! On sale at Plum for $110, it would be great for Valentine's Day!

Oversized Canvas Bag

This near comically large purse amuses me, and I would be great for toting around everything you need during fashion week! Of course, you would possibly do permanent damage to your shoulder... buy at Edge of Urge for $86.

My Style Challenge: Plaid Cape

My fashion maven mom gave me a beautiful plaid caplet that I always mean to wear more often. For some reason I rarely think about outerwear until it's so cold I have to bundle up in a wool coat! Well, even though it's January, there was a randomly warm day last week and I figured I should rock it while taking Miss Kyoko out for a walk to enjoy the weather! It comes with a matching plaid belt, but I was inspired to instead pair it with a navy and black bow belt I bought last fashion week. They look made to go with each other! And instead of my regular skinny jeans, I thought maybe I could pull out a pair of flared jeans since they're so hot right now. Hmm, they're a little loose in the knee area, which kinda diminishes the flare effect, but I suppose they'll do.... for now ;)
I'm wearing: Nordstrom plaid caplet, stretch bow belt from Anthropologie, C3 cashmere sweater bought from Bluefly, flared jeans from Victoria's Secret, Betsey Johnson drop earrings and my Ken Pavesclip-on bangs!!
The Mr is quite the photog, don't you think?? Now I just need to amp up my modeling - Tyra wold bitch at me for not elongating my neck here, ha.

Cap Sleeved Printed Blouse

I love the print of this Twenty8Twelve blouse! Hmm, I seem to be obsessed with spring prints this freezing January day, I obviously cannot wait until the temperatures rise. Buy at My Theresa for the sale price of $142.

Frill Detail Leopard Print Blazer

This Vivienne Tam blazer has interesting, flattened ruffle details all over it, giving it a textured, almost crinkled look. Buy at Yoox for $98.

Abstract Print Shorts

I adore the fun, abstract print of these Lela Rose shorts! I would love to rock these in a mixed prints look, wouldn't you? Sigh, I'm longing for summer! Buy at Neiman Marcus for a whooping $495.

Fashion of the 70s

So by now you've probably heard that 70s fashion is making a big come back! Well, I don't know about you, but I automatically think of boho hippie chic when I visualize that decade, a la "Dazed & Confused."

I definitely recommend watching this movie for some fashion inspiration... and more than a few laughs!

The 70's were an interesting time, people kept a 60's free-spirited and rebellious attitude, but disco was glamming things up and markets, and therefore fashion, were becoming more global. Denim was king, and pants started off flared early in the decade, hit full on bell bottom by the mid 70's and then deflated again by '79. I seriously think that's what happening again now, though with fashion now on ludicrous speed I think the entire cycle will finish by 2016 ;)
More inspiration can be found by watching "That 70's Show"
Or "Charlie's Angels"
The flared pant silhouette was often paired with peasant blouses, ponchos and platform shoes. But for a more disco flair think halter necklines, jumpsuits, and tube tops. Dresses ranged from maxi all the way to micro mini! Corduroy, paisley, suede, and lame were all popular. And who can forget that this was the beginning of women in menswear:
My final inspiration recommendation would have to be "Boogie Nights." One of my favorite movies and has amazing, truly authentic wardrobe choices!

Cropped Striped Tee

This tee, which also comes in a light aqua, has pretty stripes that are almost watercolor-esque! I've seen similar ones sell out already, but buy now at National Jean Company for $45.

Leopard Swing Coat

While faux leopard coats were especially chic this winter, I do feel like they are totally classic at the same time! Buy this one at Modcloth for $100.

Grey Fringed Poncho

Besides floppy brimmed hats, another relatively easy way to 70s up your look is to throw on a poncho! I like how this one has sleeves! Buy at Nasty Gal for $78.

Faux Fox Fur Scarf

Your head may be in spring, but it's still pretty cold out! Snag this glam faux fur scarf for a super affordable $20 at Ruche.

My Style Challenge: Shearling Coat

I was given the most amazing vintage shearling coat a few years back, but I apparently had mentally dismissed it as too small and hadn't worn it in years. Obviously I am an idiot because here I am wearing it and it's fabulush!
Since the only time I leave the house is to run errands or go to brunch, here I am at the Clyde's near my house! My sister and I try to meet every Sunday and discuss my total lack of wedding planning... AHHHH I need to order save the dates like last week!
I'm wearing: glorious vintage shearling coat, fringe scarf from Urban Outfitters, red top by Arden B., ASOS skinny jeans, one of my J. Crew wrap bracelets, and wedges by Rocket Dog. Oh silly fashion blogger!

Flight-Inspired Pants

I feel like these J Brand pants are a good example of where trouser trends are right now - cropped with a banded hem and not too tight or too loose. Buy exclusively (for now) at Intermix for $238.

Chain Wrapped Pearl Studs

A lot of my jewelry if very boho feminine, which is funny since most of my outfits lean towards a rocker edgy side. SO I'm often wearing the same generic hoop earrings that don't look out of place with skinny jeans and a menswear blazer. I should at least get myself a second pair to switch things up, like these chain wrapped pearl studs. Get the classic with a twist look at Max & Chloe for $40.

Fairwinds Clutch

These one of a kind, handcrafted in Tanzania clutches are not only quite beautiful, but proceeds will help the artisans' family's nutrition, educates children, and brings access to health care and dignity. Buy at Rachel Roy for $75.

Black Lace Top

Oooo lace, lately you've been setting my heart aflutter! Buy this Joie top at Bloomingdale's for $178 - note that it's just the lace top sans any lining. Pair with a black cami one day, a neon pink one another day for two very different looks!

Sheer Long Skirt

Sheer Long SkirtI was in the middle of a search for long but non-flowy skirts when this piece caught my eye - wouldn't it look great layered over a tight miniskirt??? Buy at Yoox for the sale price of $85.

Olive Twill Wrap Dress

Now that party dress season is over, I suppose I'll attempt to find cute everyday / work dresses to post! This Diesel one caught my eye - I love the olive color and its shawl-like collar! Buy at Ssense for the sale price of $175.

Upcoming Trend: Flatforms

I recently spent about six months desperately searching for platforms shoes with little to no wedge heel. At 5'1, I figured it would provide the height while keeping me comfortable while running around NYC during fashion week! I even contacted JeffSilverman.com about creating a custom pair, but no response. Well, that's too bad for him because "flatforms" are officially all the rage for Spring 2011!!! Designers such as Derek Lam, Chanel, Prada and 3.1 Philip Lim showed these fun yet comfy shoes on their runways and now they're starting to become available. I already snagged my Robert Cleregie boots on megasale, but here are some great options for you!

Shearling Gilet

If I didn't just buy myself a furry vest I would SO be snatching up this faux shearling one by Walter! Originally $268, it's currently $108 - how could you resist?? Buy at theOutnet.com

Men's Bow Tie Shirt

Even though I have a category for it, I rarely post menswear items. But this bow tie button down definitely caught my eye - perfect for the dandy man in your life! Buy at Acrimony for the sale price of $130.

My Style Challenge: Lace Blazer

I am so ashamed to tell all of you that I have worn this blazer only once before. This gorgeous piece has been languishing in my closet for more than a year. This obviously had to be remedied immediately, and what better time to wear it than during my first week at a new job??I wanted to make sure the lace really popped, so I wore a neon pink tee. I paired with a great knit skirt that's a bit too long so I channeled my Catholic school girl skills by rolling the waist. I wore my awesomely thick gray tights and decided it would be more fun to wear ankle boots than the more-expected heels.
I'm wearing: A Vivienne Tam lace blazer, a J. Crew tee, a Velvet jersey knit skirt from Anthropologie, some Diane von Furstenberg boots, and my Wendy Brandes staked heart ring!
Miss Kyoko gives my outfits five kisses! And here's a close-up of the lace!
