My Style Challenge: Electric Prep

I managed to snag a kaleidoscope print pencil skirt nearly identical to a Zara one seen on more than a few fashion bloggers this spring (example one and example two)! But this left me with a bit of a quandary... how do I style it in a way that was unique?

I decided that instead of mixing prints (very tempting, I know!), I would try mixing "vibes" instead! Since the skirt had such a bold, electric tribal print, I contrasted it with a ladys who lunch style jacket and my vintage Chanel bag. The look ends up being polished and wacky fun at the same time!

I'm wearing: Jacket and skirt both from TopShop, pink H&M tee, vintage Chanel bag, Michael Michael Kors pumps, sunglasses from Urban Outfitters. Jewelry includes: Studs courtesy of South Moon Under,   necklace from Last Call, Mockingjay pin from eBay, vintage Gucci watch, wrap bracelet and pink chain bracelet from Juicy Couture, spike bracelet courtesy of Stella & Dot, cocktail ring from my mom, wedding band by Tina Tang.

Lust for Less: Laser Cut Neon Clutch

Pops of neon are so hot right now! What better way to zing up an outfit that with a fun, bright clutch?

I was looking around when I noticed this vibrant Christopher Kane clutch. Available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $530 in pink, orage, yellow and green, it reminded me quite a bit of something I already own...

Yup, super similar to the ASOS clutch all IFB Conference attendees got in their gift bags! For just $36 you can have your own in pink or yellow!

Colorblock Blazer

I have a serious colorblock addition in jackets right now! Really love the blue pop on this blazer, which would look amazing over a sundress or paired with white cut ouffs! Buy at Bloomingdale's for $108.

Embroidered Mesh Top

I was looking for atheltic style mesh tops to post when I came across this beautiful, vintage-esque piece that I immediately fell in love with! I still fear sheer, but I think this may be worth trying it out with! Buy at Anthropologie for $88 and layer over a neon pink or mint green tank for extra points!

Neon Pink Denim Jacket

It's a neon pink denim jacket by TextileElizabeth & James on Madewell!!! I totally die for it, but $365 for a denim jacket? I feel like dying your own would actually be a much more feasible option than spending that much money, and I suffer from serious laziness!

Large Floral Print Skinny Jeans

As I sigh heavily over every fashion blogger besides me owning some floral Citizens of Humanity jeans, I tell myself that mayhaps there ARE other floral pants out there! This pair by J Brand is less whimsical but certainly more wearable year round! And, at least for now, I haven't seen them everywhere already! Buy at ShopBop for $203.

Contrast Stripe Tee

J. Crew really knows how to take an everyday classic and punch it up! Love the look of this tee and it's only $40 - an affordable piece to update your closet for spring!

Baroque Print Shorts

Baroqu anything is usually something I consider for fall, never spring But the great colors of these shorts make them work now through summer! Buy at Topshop for $68.

Pink Chiffon Slit Maxi Skirt

There were definitely a lot of slit maxi skirts on the runway for spring and fall 2012, meaning this is no one season wonder! A tres beautiful, super floaty skirt, with some sex appeal for just $80 at CUSP.

My Style Challenge: Never Worn Pants

Post NY Fashion Week I tend to get outfit styling burn out, and don;t really put my best foot forward. However, I'm so proud to finally be wearing these pants that I had to share!

I actually bought them more than ten years ago and they've never once been worn. I know, I'm totally embaressed to be hoarding such fabulous items... I used to think I needed to match the pink exactly for a top and it's taken me this long to be really comfortable not doing that!

I'm wearing: Vivienne Tam pants from a zillion seasons ago, DKNY mint green tank, indigo cardigan from YesStyle, purple Vagabond NY boots from SoleStruck and Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. Jewelry includes: Necklace from Free People, green ring courtesy of Gerard Yosca, gold spike bracelet courtesy of Stella & Dot, Juicy Couture wrap bracelet, tiger bracelet and rhinestone bangles from CUSP.
Isn't the obi belt detail just beyond? Shame on me for not wearing these out earlier!!!

Birdcage Print Blouse

Love this Parisian style print and the contrast piping of this blouse! Very chic and put together looking, yet an affordable $51 at ASOS!

Pink Sequin Top

With a slightly boxy croxy shape and fabulous pink sequins, I'm seriously in love with this alice + olivia top! Paired with killer white jeans and some wedge sandals, it would be a great weekend look, but I think I'd rock it with a maxi skirt and flats for a fun glam fancy / boho casual contrast. Buy at Nordstrom for $330.

Warm Cobalt Coat

It's that time of year where you're thinking about upcoming warm weather fashion, but you also need to be snatching up winter chic on sale! I know almost everyone in DC has a J. Crew coat, but their Thinsulate is super warm and a bright blue coat is still unique and standout! Buy for $180, usually $320.

CapFABB Turns One

The Capital Area Fashion and Beauty Bloggers have really grown so much that I'm actually a little surprised it's only been a year! But I was tres excited to stop by the anniversary party this week at Cities!

Everyone got super glammed up. My closet was a full on wreck post fashion week and I couldn't find anything to wear! I decided to go for a fashion pirate look - arrrrgh!
We got to play around with flowers and make cool accessories like this fascinator make gorge with a calla lily - thanks H. Bloom for sponsoring the party!
There was also a fun photo booth where people hammed it up big time!
It was great seeing everyone! Did I mention how glam and amazing they all looked?? It makes me want to go shopping for chic new clothing!
Here's to another great year in 2012!

Carousel Horse Sweater

If you watch Glee, you probably know why I'm posting this sweater! I mean, if it's good enough for The Satorialist... buy at ModCloth for $68.

Color Love: Mint

I know, I know, I've already talked about how much I adore chartreuse and cobalt for spring, but I also really can't get mint out of my head! Ever since last spring it's been on my mind and I think we all need to take a moment to appreciate how fresh and wonderful a color it is!

Ivory & Striped Chiffon Dress

I adore this floaty chiffon dress - a perfect addition to my wardrobe for the upcoming warm weather! Should I get for SXSW Interactive? Buy at Frock Candy for the uber affordable $49!

Colorblocked Frame Bag

After all those NYFW posts, its good to be back to curating want! First up is a killer Rachel Rachel Roy shoulder bag with a faux snakeskin stripe surrounded by chartreuse, in turn surrounded by baby blue. For just $79, this purse is MAY-jah!

New York Fashion Week Street Style

When you snap show attendees inside, does it count as street style? I'm gonna say yes! So what were some of the more stand out looks to catch my eye this season?

Loved this girl's mixing of purple and green, the leather details on her coat, the vintage style necklace.,, the embossed mustard bag. But what really kills it for me are her shoes! It's a pulled together look that's bold, but not unwearable outside fashion week.
Another stand out look we can all try at home! Printed pants are great, but not everyone wants to pair them with a striped top! A chunky cream sweater is more realistic, but the textured coloring of the fab coat still gives a mixed prints vibe to the look!
The extreme peplum of the red skirt is to die for, and I love the minty green of the sweater, layered perfectly over a grey tee!
Possibly my most favorite look from fashion week is this killer monochrome white outfit, punctuated with a fuzzy baby blue coat and kitty slippers! I'm surprised to find that I love the white statement necklace over the white sweater and that bag is everything.
Proof that you can look slouchy and put together at the same time. The pants are super bold, but on top she's soft, layered, and monochrome which balances everything out perfectly!

Do you like my picks? Look at all my street style pics and start getting inspired for spring now!

Rochambeau F/W '12

Rochambeau was the last presentation I made before heading back to DC! Solely a menswear label, it was created by friends Joshua Cooper and Laurence Chandler in 2007.

It was super dark, I guess to convey an edgy, moody aesthetic. Lots of blacks and burgundy, structured details contrasted with baggy silhouettes, and fringe. It had a very editorial feel, and on occasion I got a bit of a Matrix vibe. See all my too dark pictures:

Whitney Eve F/W '12

Whitney Port may have used her reality TV star status to help her launch her label, Whitney Eve, but I think she's done an amazing job designing clothing that women would wear and can actually afford!

I died for the abstract floral prints, velvets and glittering embellishments! I noticed lots of orange and black, peplum details and layered crop tops. Definitely a West Coast type of collection, it was fun and ready for the club.

Pamella Roland F/W '12

I've been attending Pamella Roland shows for what seems like forever, with good reason! Even though she's not really a household name, she consistently put out wearable glamour, with a touch of feminine charm. Maria MMaria Menounos walked in the show and the front row was packed with blonde socialites like Tinsely Mortimer - I imagine many of her gowns will make the NYC benefit circuit in a few months!

Inspired by the winter wonderland that is Aspen, Colorado, she showed fur and leather, nature-esque prints, including a fab woodgrain, and beautifully embellished gowns! I wonder which we'll end up seeing on the red carpet this weekend?
Look at all my pictures here: Wish I could wear one of these gowns to the USO's gala this year!

Alexandre Herchcovitch F/W '12

Alexandre Herchcovitch is a great up-and-coming designer from brazil, who showed a romantic collection that was somehow architectural at the same time! Gold and lace were heavily featured, as well as some killer bright yellow patent pieces and lovely shearling.

Loved the rounded shoulders, which continue to be a presence on the runways, and the elegant, clean designs that put a focus on the contrasting fabrications. In only about twenty looks Alexandre Herchcovitch gets his point across!
