JC Penney: Doing it Right

JC Penney is being boycotted by "pro-family," anti-gay organization One Million Moms first for choosing Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson and, more recently, for having a lesbian couple in their May catalogue.

But they aren't done yet! In a big THHHHHHHBT to anti-gay people everywhere, they now have a great  Father's Day ad out showing a gay couple playing with their children.

This is more than enough to get me shopping there again, how about you?

Fifteen Office Appropriate Shorts

A surprising amount of offices allow women to wear shorts to work... as long as they're long enough! However, many long shorts can look old and unflattering - luckily for you I've found 15 different pairs that are tres chic!

Plunging Print Suits Off the Beach

On fun thing about a sexy one piece is they can double as a bodysuit, making it much easier to wear one all day at the pool or beach and then thrown on some clothes to take you to dinner or cocktails! Can't envision it? Well let me help you!

plunging print swinsuits
Here are three very different looks you can try, all paired with fabulously printed swimsuits!

The first suit I paired with some chic shorts, a cardigan and cute, edgy accessories. Next I paired the suit with a button front dress - just leave the top half open and all suddenly you have a sexy cami underneath! Finally I paired the last suit with a sarong maxi skirt and boho-esque pieces.

All three looks work great for a date at the pool bar, all you need is a mojito to complete the look!

Melty Quartz Pendant

I adore this melty top quartz pendant! Inspired by a candle's wax dripping down its side, each one is one of a kind and standout without being in your face. Hmm, looks like a lot of other people also like it, buy the last one at boticca for $130!

Multiprint Dress

Love all the Moraccan, vintage-style prints melded together in this dress! And in such a flattering silhouette, I love blousy dresses that still define the waist. Even better with a slight high low hemline, no? Buy at this one at Allsaints for $275.

Fashion Dog: Blue of Real Girl Runway

Dashing, no?
Next up in my Fashion Dog series is Blue from Deb of  Real Girl Runway! A 10-year-old Blue Tick, Blue Heeler mix, he was adopted during a pet adoption day at Petsmart. He was very scared and curled in the back of his kennel, but Mommy Liz got him to come to her and it was love at first sight. His sister Anita is a German Short Haired Pointer mix. She's 7 and very very active. He also has a sister cat named Hemingway. They call pups like Blue and Anita and kitties like Hemingway rescues but Deb says, "we think they rescued us."

Describe a typical day in your life.
We get up pretty early. My sister, Anita doesn't let me sleep past 6am. She has to go out for her run. Our moms let us out and feed us. Then we go back to bed and snooze for the rest of the morning. I spend the day with my sisters (dog sister Anita and cat sister Hemingway), while my Moms are gone. I love barking at trucks, especially Fed Ex, UPS and the mail carrier. They might be bringing me something.

My favorite past time is hanging out with my people and being petted. If you aren't petting me, I will talk to you or nudge you until you do. I'm so happy when my Moms get home at night and we can spend time together. We take evening walks and play together after dinner. I'm also a great singer. I love to howl, since I have a bit of hound in me.

On weekends I sleep in with Mom Liz while Mom Deb and Anita blog and play fetch. Summer is my favorite time. We spend time in the backyard running and playing around the pool. Mostly I just chill with my people under the deck awning while they drink cocktails.
Blue and Anita sing together!
Does your mommy ever dress you up?
No, but she says that I remind her of a southern gentleman. If she did dress me up, I'm sure I'd wear a bow tie. Accessories make the outfit, you know.

What summer trends have you panting in anticipation?
I'm loving pastels right now. They are kind of preppy. Color blocking is also cool. My new collar, harness and leash are full of bright colors.

What online sites have the best pet gear?
I like because they have a little bit of everything. My favorite local place to shop is Dogman Bakery in Arlington, Virginia. I like fashion but not as much as Mom. I'm more of a foodie and they have the best treats.

What designer or store do you wish made dog clothes & accessories?
I definitely think Ralph Lauren would be my store. I can see myself in a blazer and paisley bow tie. My sister, Anita would shop at Balmain. She's wild and is more of a rocker chick. I also love shoes. I have been known to chew a pair or two. Mom almost passed out when I chewed a pair of her Jimmy Choos. I felt a little bad about it but they were delicious.

My Style Challenge: Focus on the Details

Whew, DC humidity is catching up with me!! All I want to wear is lots and lots of nothing, to be frank. But I'm not quite that desperate for new shoe money, so here's what I wore yesterday!

I wanted to focus on my accessories, especially my fab neon earrings - bold but I can sleep in them!  The earrings plus my cami are great pops of neon pink. I used to think bright earrings plus a wrist soiree plus a oversized ring would been too much, but I think I'm at a good place! ...And of course my killer shoes!
Aren't they just amazing?? I've worn them in outfit posts before, but I feel like they really need to be pointed out as funsies. I'm pretty sure my feet have been featured in a major WTF blog because of these babies!
I'm wearing: J. Crew linen shirt, pink United Colors of Benneton cami, floral H&M skirt, Marc Jacobs misplaced heels, Juicy Couture sunglasses, South clutch from a fashion show giftbag. Jewelry includes: ASOS pink drop earrings courtesy of Buysphere, necklace from Free People, cocktail ring from H&M, pink chain and leather wrap bracelets from Juicy Couture, mixed metal bracelet from CUSP, spike bracelet courtesy of Stella & Dot.

Cropped Kimono Top

Love this cropped kimono style top, especially the pretty print! It gives the top a bit of a corset look, yet in the most girly, demure way possible! Buy at Koshka for $195.

Dalmatian Print Jeans

Not super impressed with the Charlotte Free for Forever 21 collection, but am tempted by these dalmatian print jeans! For just $23, they're a fun way to rock an unusual print... or do you think people would mistake it for cow?

Pleated Print Midi Skirt

I always adore Tucker prints and this one is no exception! I love the pleats and the length, though it would probably fall too long on my petite frame! Buy at Nouvelles for the sale price of $184, originally $460!

Silk Neon Shorts

Surely you own a pair of neon shorts by now! No? For why!?!? Here's a super cute pair, in soft, light silk and with great orange trim! Hmm, looks a little sheer though... Buy at Barneys for $265.

Rhinestone & Agate Drop Earrings

Everyone is obsessing over statement earrings lately, including me! This pair is quite lovely and versatile - love the colors and mix of stones! Buy at Endless for $120.

Nautical Stipe Bikini

I feel like this is the perfect bikini for the curvier girl! The top has underwire and thick, supportive straps and the matching bottoms have side ties to help prevent muffin top! Both are on sale for $61 each at Lord & Taylor.

Sporadic Showers for Memorial Day

This entire week all the way to Monday feels impossible to dress for - hot with sporadic showers every single day! But fear not, I have create the perfect outfit for your long weekend of possible rain!

Rainy long weekend

Come rain or shine you will be chic! My recommendations for "isolated" summer thunderstorms when trying to get your long weekend on include:
  • Find cute, waterproof shoes! Knee high boots will probably leave you sweaty and gross all day, so look for ankle length or below. I have a great pair of rain ballet flats - they don't really protect my feet from getting wet, but once the weather clears up they dry in seconds and I'm comfy again!
  • Wear short bottoms! You may want to wear a cute, summery maxi dress or be inclined to throw on jeans when you hear it may rain, but don't give in! Nothing sucks worse than walking around with a wet hem, so stick to mid calf or above.
  • Bring a large summery tote! A roomy bag, especially if straw, is perfect for the warm weather but will hold a light jacket and umbrella. Because you know what's worse than rain when you want to play outside? Being unprepared for said rain while outside!
What are your plans for Memorial Day? Looks like I'll be going to NYC for a work concert, maybe I can fit in some time to see some of my girls though!

Tip Toe Shoes

The next must have shoe by Jeffrey Campbell is here: the tip toe shoe! With a clear, lucity wedge heel, it looks like you're walking around on your toes... worth $145 at Solestruck? It's selling out quick, so don't take too long to decide! It also comes in completely clear and a transparent black.

20 Retro Style Sweaters

I inexplicably decided I wanted a 70s style sweater, reminiscent of Bert & Ernie. I have no rhyme or reason, but something about multi color striped sweater suddenly appealed to me and I immediately went looking for some fun options!

Since sharing is caring (I learned that from Sesame Street!), here are some of the best options I discovered!

Next up, Mr. Rogers cardigans!

Creatures of the Wind for J. Crew

I've been obsessed with Creatures of the Wind since my friend Deanne of Dream Sequins introduced me a few years back! So, while many people were psyched to hear about Altuzzara for J. Crew, I'm tres more excited for their upcoming collection with Creatures of the Wind!!

The pieces will draw inspiration from 60s psychedelia, so think edgy hippies in bold colors and prints! Available June 15, I'm counting down the days until I can get my hands on those fab oxfords!

Bleached Bottom Chambray Shirt

I had been planning a DIY where I took a denim top or vest and dipped in a vat a bleach, but buying this shirt seems so much easier... particularly since I don't have a bucket! It's a pretty reasonable $64 at Urban Outfitters too!

Black Trim Envelope Clutch

I love oversized clutches right now, and this vegan one is particularly standout in simple white with black trim! Doesn't it look like a cartoon come to life? Buy at
Nasty Gal for $48.
