My Style Challenge: A Crop Top

Ok, I've seen plenty of crop tops being rocked lately, but how would someone of relatively average size look wearing one?

Tah dah, not too bad!! Like I've mentioned before, the key is to make sure the sliver of skin you show is higher up, no belly buttons allowed! I'm wearing: Express tank folded up, Paper, Denim & Cloth jean skirt, Prabal Gurung for Target heels, cardigan from Anthropologie, Lovers + Friends purse, Oliver Peoples sunnies and a Madewell hat.
My jewelry includes a mid knuckle ring from ShopBop, jeweled bracelet courtesy of South Moon Under, spike bracelet courtesy of Stella & Dot, and necklace and silver pearl ring from my mom!
I heart these shoes, you can still find them on eBay if you're sad you didn't snatch up a pair when you had the chance!

Floral Over Stripes Dress

I love a print layered over another print - so complex and interesting! This floral over stripes print is just the thing for summer and will surely sell out soon! Buy at ModCloth for $83.

What to Wear: Summer Wedding

Once spring time comes around, the wedding season commences causing guests to scramble to find the perfect wedding look. Women are pressured to look their best – especially if there’s an old frenemy on the guestlist! Many of my friends stand out naturally, but especially when they get glammed up. I’ve taken three of their beautiful looks and found some great dresses to get you all spruced up for your next wedding.

The short crinkle chiffon dress with the front cascade from David's Bridal is luxuriously stylish in the latte color, inspired by a guest from a wedding I just recently attended. The color brings a very expensive look to the dress because of the classy and mature look that it possesses. The dress itself would be flattering for all body shapes because of its sweetheart neckline and ruching at the bust. The flowing skirt of the dress hides those areas that you want unseen while providing a unique look with the front cascade made of crinkled chiffon. This effect adds movement to the dress, which adds a fun and flirty element to the dress.

The next perfect wedding guest dress is the embossed skater dress with a cage back from ASOS. My bestie Julie rocked a similarly bright dress with extra touches of color to a recent wedding! This dress is for people who are going for more of an edgy and daring look. The subtle embossed print throughout the whole dress makes this a really special piece. Its intricate pattern is very flattering to the style of the dress as well as the color. The V-neckline adds a sexy feel to the dress, which is only reinforced by the cage back. This sexy and bold dress will have any woman looking like a sizzling bombshell at any wedding.

The gem applique waist gown from Cache is another great dress for a spring wedding. My friend Brandy rocked a similar look for a formal affair and turned heads all night! It screams high class and makes every woman wearing it look poised and chic. The plum color makes it look very expensive and perfect for any warm weather wedding. The sheer draping of this dress across the waist and on one shoulder compliments a woman's figure by giving them a wonderful curvy shape. And the beading on the side is the perfect compliment to the ruching that it holds together. It is no question that this dress exudes class, but it also surprises everyone with a sexy side slit that goes right up to the thigh. Boom!

All my friend look super glam and definitely should inspire you for your next wedding! But don’t be afraid to go a little out of the box – did you see my shorts suit wedding look? And stay tuned for another round!

My Style Challenge: A Shorts Suit

Yes, I decided to buy a shorts suit this year!! At first I was against the idea - not like I could wear it to work and I certainly don't go out enough to justify buying one. But then it occurred to me that I do wear a lot of blazers and shorts separately... haha!

I ended up wearing the pieces together for a good friend's wedding down in Virginia Beach! I was originally going to pair with a button down blouse, but I felt like it was too tomboy-ish for my own personal style... I am all about glam, especially for a wedding! So I threw on my fabulous halter top that seems to always be perfect for every occasion!
I'm wearing: Express jacket and shorts, shoes from Guess, Banana Republic halter top, bag and anklet from ShopBop. Almost my entire look could have come from the mall!
And I am so obsessed with anklets right now!! I may need to get this one shortened, though, as I have the world's tiniest ankles!
Congrats to the happy couple!

Stay tuned for wedding attire advice!

Work, Weekend and Wingding: Bermuda Shorts

I already created an inspiration board on how to style bermuda shorts, but I wanted to show how versatile a pair can be! Tad dah - three outfits, one for work, one for the weekend and one for a wingding!

Work, Weekend and Wingding: Bermuda Shorts

My first look is work! As you can see, a pair of chic, black bermuda shorts look great with a peplum top, classy pumps and a ladylike bag! You could also go for a bermuda shorts suit look as well - just be sure to watch your proportions. Long shorts are best balanced by a tailored blazer that isn't too long.

The weekend is easy peasy. Just toss on a cute, printed tank, a lightweight cardigan and a low wedge sandal and you're ready for brunch, errands and relaxing!

A wingding can be anything from a night out clubbing to a wedding! I default to sequins - immediate glamour! Some bright, strappy heels and a cute clutch and you are set!

Ten Essential Summer Trends

I skipped this for spring, so here is the summer edition of ten essential trends!!

Ten Summer Essentials

  1. A shorts suit: Perfect for a night out or wedding! See my inspiration board for ideas on how to wear one!
  2. White pumps: A fresh take on neutral heels! I have an inspiration board for styling this as well.
  3. Overalls: Pair with heels for a grown-up take. And, you guessed it, I've done an inspiration board!
  4. Holograph accessories and accents: Edgy and futuristic in the most summery possible. I prefer this to actual see-through pieces... my purse is a hot mess and I really don't want people to know!

  6. Asian inspiration: Especially floral prints! It's a new way to wear florals for summer.
  7. Laser cut-outs: On skirt hems, heels, tops and more, it's the perfect way to keep cool during summer.
  8. A crop top: Not as scary as you think! I have already shown you three ways to rock one!
  9. Water print: This was all over the runways, but not a lot of options have been available yet. I have found a few now, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hot & Humid Office Attire

It's started... the time in DC where temperatures sore up to the 90s and the humidity hits epic proportions! So what's a girl with a office dress code to do? I have built out a great summer wardrobe for you:

Hot & Humid Work Chic
I should note I would supplement this closet with about a zillion cotton James Perse tees in every color possible, hahah. When building your perfect summer work wardrobe remember a few important things:

  1. Lighten up. It's true, lighter clothing really does seem to keep you cooler! But note that light blue shows pit stains more than any other color... who knew?!?
  2. Check your fabrics. Yeah yeah, leather is cool for summer. I recently wore a faux leather skirt... and nearly ripped it off me I was so sweaty along the waistband! So aim for madras, cotton, seersucker, linen, chambrey - all fabrics & textiles that will let your skin breathe!
  3. Look for loose shapes. No bandage dresses for me this summer! I'm going for more flowy, with wider pants and flared skirts and dresses.
