Mixing Prints in Real Life

"Anyone can mix prints, just pick & follow a unifying color!" Yeah, you've heard it, even from me! But let's face it, the average woman is not interested in spending more than 30 minutes getting dressed in the morning or repelling men. I think many in the fashion industry (including bloggers) forget that jeans and a tee is the weekend uniform for 90% of this country!

So how do you try mixing prints in real life? There's a surprising answer: be subtle. I know you probably think subtly mixed prints is an oxymoron, but actually I've found that it's as easy as wearing one print article of clothing and one printed accessory, whether it's a belt, scarf, purse or shoes! You can pick a unifying color or mix one colored print with a black & white one - I suppose what you'd call a "neutral print."

Here are three looks that are "mixed prints lite" and perfect for the woman that likes to look fashionable without obsessing over it!

Mink Pink is a brand you should definitely start paying attention to! Remember when I wrote about Evil Twin right before everyone in the world started stocking them?? Well, I get the feeling this will be a very similar situation! The clothing and how they're styled just feel so fresh and of the moment! And also, they're from Australia!!

Leather Shorts: Now & Later

If you followed my advice last fall, you probably own a pair o f leather shorts! But now that it's an unseasonably warm winter, how will we wear them now and how will wear them when it's even warmer out??

Hooray leather shorts in the winter! Pretty easy, add some tights and some spring trends like a mesh sweater and royal blue booties and, of course, warm accessories like a furry vest, wool hat and a maxi coat!

Spring time is probably a harder time to think about leather, especially in the mid-Atlantic region where it gets warm and sticky surprisingly fast. But I think we all know leather shorts aren't cheap so we'll made them work year-round!!!

I would rock a spring trend you probably don't want to start wearing now - the crop top! Now leather shorts and a crop top need to be toned down a bit, so thrown on a light cardigan and wear flats, like the current fave, the slipper!

My Style Challenge: La Cage aux Folles

I got to go back to the Kennedy Center over the weekend for more art enlightenment! This time I saw La Cage aux Folles, the musical The Birdcage was based off of! Best of all, George Hamilton himself was playing Georges, the Robin Williams character (renamed Armand in the movie).

There were selling boas at the giftshop, but I really wanted those pink boots! They also had signed copies of George Hamilton's book, Don't Mind if I Do.

I decided to try out this whole knot the bottom of a shirt thing with one of my cotton tees. It got a teeny bit stretched out, but here's to hoping it will all fall back into place once it's washed!

I saw the show with my bestie Julie and her sister Monica. It was a riot and the performances were top notch. The men were fierce, the music catchy and I just about died over the costumes!

Next up in the Fashion Dogs Interview Series... Luna of Style Coalition and My It Things! Mommy Yuli found this one-year-old Siberian Husky, American Eskimo, Duchshund mix on PetFinder.com last May. Rescued from North Carolina with her two sisters and fostered by a nice family upstate NY, her two sisters got adopted quickly. But Luna was more on the shy side, so no one wanted her.. until Yuli & her forever family saw her - it was love from the first sight! Since then she has quickly adopted to her amazing life in in NYC!

Describe a typical day in your life:
I spend most of my days at the Style Coalition office, and go to daycare few times a week, where I play with my boyfriends Nike and Luke (keeping my options open). In the evenings I love hanging out with my dog run friends at the Washington Square. On the weekends I like to take a stroll around Soho or invite my weekend boyfriend Gustav to chill on my roof deck. My social calendar tends to get pretty busy.

Does your human ever dress you up?
Yes it gets chilly in NYC, so I got a nice shearling coat, and Gustav sent me matching booties for Christmas.

My style is more on the classy side, so I don't really follow trends and runways.
